This hands-on course provides students with an introduction to crime mapping techniques and is designed for students with little or no experience in crime mapping. Students use GIS technology analyze crime and known offender data by adding this data to a base map, querying data by attribute, identifying spatial patterns, and creating completed maps. Topics include working with ArcGIS and ArcCatalog, learning coordinate system basics, exploring layer properties, reviewing data fields and records, querying data using several different methods, and designing map layouts.
